Expressing Emotions

Activities on this topic have been developed to help children and young people with learning disabilities widen their emotional vocabulary and practice expressing more complex emotions. The ability to express preferences and our relay our emotional response to situation is an important factor in living more autonomous lives. This topic is the first building block for all of the of the work we do. If a young person is unable to make their own choices clear; or understand and express their emotions clearly, it may be harder for them exercise consent in a variety of situations.

During workshops on this topic, participants will:

(as appropriate)

  • Learn words for different emotions and match them with facial expressions
  • Practice making different facial expressions clearly
  • Practice stating how they feel with the new words they have learned
  • Practice making clear choices and explaining why
