Accessing Sexual Health Services

Activities on this topic have been developed to highlight how a young person can access sexual health services, what to expect from consultations and the rights they have when accessing these types of services. This topic can be explored during a stand alone workshop or as part of another workshop relating to sexual health.

During workshops on this topic, participants will:

Age 12 upwards (as appropriate)

  • Discover what Frasier Guidelines are and how they are used to govern how staff at sexual health clinics treat young people of different ages
  • Learn the meaning of confidentiality, their rights relating to it and the legal limits of it in potential child protection cases
  • Explore the relevant laws relating to young people and sexual activity
  • Find out which sexual health services are available to them in their local area and how to access them.
  • Discuss the many reasons why a young person may choose to visit a sexual health service and the barriers that may prevent some young people from visiting sexual health services.
